On September 19, 2023, Dr. Paul Weir, the executive director of the College & Career Advantage Program (CCA), and Tesoro Principal Ken Ezratty unveiled the brand new Esports Lounge at Tesoro.

CCA pioneered this project, which is the Capistrano Unified School District's way of providing high-quality and engaging career technical education (CTE). The Esports class marks the newest edition of the CTE classes, which includes aviation, fire science, lifeguarding, and more.

"CCA provides students with the foundational skills necessary to enter the workforce or continue their education in a variety of technical fields," said Dr. Weir in his Executive Director Message.

The lounge is in room 903, with its primary function to serve as the epicenter for the new Esports class, which will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:30 P.M. with state-of-the-art gaming and media equipment.

If taken both semesters of a school year, the course satisfies the G requirement for California Universities.

You don't have to be a talented gamer to have a successful career in Esports. Other jobs within the industry include a coach, team manager, sales manager, and other jobs relating to the competition venues.

"As esports got bigger, the need for different kinds of jobs arose fast. There became a demand for social media managers, people who make content, graphic designers, managers, tournament directors, and marketers. There is a lot more than meets the eye… not just the people who just sit behind the computer," said Ethan Cinco, a 4-year professional Overwatch player and Coach.

Rather than only playing games in the course, students will learn about the Esports foundations, the professional lifestyle of players, how streaming works, the industry's current status, and the Esports ecosystem in conjunction with the play experience.

“[The] first half focus [of the course] is on learning concepts relevant to the esports ecosystem, while the second half of the course focuses on producing esports media,” according to the Esports Course Description by CCA.
