Last week, Crumbl officially kicked off the fall season with an exciting lineup of nostalgic fall flavors for the week of Oct. 8-12. They included two of their more well-known flavors, the classic Milk Chocolate Chip and fan favorite Chocolate Peanut Butter. However, the interesting part was the four new flavors: Tres Leches Cake, Maple Sandwich, Caramel Apple, and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip. I tried all six flavors with my family, and here is an honest review of what cookies you should get and which to skip out on:
Milk Chocolate Chip
The cookie receives an 8 out of 10 rating: a stone-cold classic from the company, this cookie is packed with big chocolate chips in a sugary batter. It’s a nostalgic favorite of mine, and it’s rating bumps even higher if you eat it when warm.
Tres Leches Cake
The cookie receives a 3 out of 10 rating: I don’t think I’ve disliked a cookie from Crumbl as much as I disliked this one in a long time. Actually, it’s not even a cookie, it’s more like a cake, and not a good cake at that–it’s a bland, dry cake in a pan topped with flavorless frosting with cinnamon on top. But what really turned me off was how soggy it was–they put this caramel flavored sauce at the bottom that made eating it a rather unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, I would say this cookie is a hard pass.
Maple Cream Sandwich
The cookie receives a 10 out of 10 rating: this cookie, if not already, deserves to go down one of the best in Crumbl’s fall catalog. The maple flavored frosting in the middle of the cookie was absolutely mouthwatering, and the cookie part tasted kind of like Trader Joe’s letter cookies, but with the soft baked texture we know and love from Crumbl. Overall, this was my favorite out of the bunch, and I would highly recommend you purchase this cookie whenever they have it.
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip
The cookie receives a 5 out of 10 rating: coming back to the Trader Joe’s comparisons, if you’ve ever had their pumpkin bread mix, this tastes like a discount version of that, with maybe two chocolate chips added in there. It pretty much tastes like the most average pumpkin bread you’ve ever eaten. Not bad, but unless you love pumpkin-flavored anything, I can’t strongly recommend it either.
Chocolate Peanut Butter
The cookie receives a 7 out of 10 rating: a sugary classic, this is a thick chocolate cookie with peanut butter spread on top, along with a crushed peanut butter cup. When I tried this, it at first felt like biting into an ice cream cake or a Ben & Jerry’s pint. If that comparison sounds appealing to you, then I highly recommend trying out this cookie if you haven't already.
Caramel Apple
The cookie receives a 10 out of 10 rating: this cookie is a fantastic example of many different flavors coming together to deliver something truly spectacular. This cookie has a classic sweet batter with thick vanilla frosting, topped with sweet green apples and a drizzle of caramel. The apples aren’t sour at all, and the vanilla frosting and caramel tasted amazing together. This cookie is my close second favorite and another one I recommend with my whole heart.
This arrangement was a little bit of a mixed bag, so I was anxious to see what my peers and teacher across campus think of it. After asking around, it seems that Maple Cream Sandwich and Chocolate Peanut Butter were the most popular, and Tres Leches cake was generally disliked by most. Hopefully, Crumbl will keep bringing these flavors in their weekly rotation, as this was a truly unique batch.
