Breast Cancer Awareness at Tesoro

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Tesoro is taking part in spreading awareness.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the US, and for many, it is a difficult and painful disease to treat. During October, many schools, businesses and families recognize breast cancer by spreading awareness and showing their support for those affected.

Many Tesoro teams incorporate pink into their uniforms, the color of breast cancer awareness. Sophi Reinhart, a varsity cheerleader, expressed her enthusiasm towards the varsity cheer team’s contributions: “This is a time of year that we all look forward to, and we dedicate our performance of the night to the families and women affected by this horrible disease.”

To further support this cause, the Tesoro Girls Soccer program has recently created a practice jersey to spread breast cancer awareness. The idea for this new addition was from the team’s Marketing and Social Media Manager, Dan Siebold, to honor his mother who lost her life due to breast cancer. Kayla Siebold, Dan’s daughter and a varsity Tesoro soccer player, describes her enthusiasm for the new jerseys: “I am so glad that we get to spread awareness for such an important cause, and wearing it to commemorate my grandmother makes it even more special.”

Additionally, Tesoro dedicates one of its home varsity football games to breast cancer awareness, making their dress-up theme “Pink Out” to show their support.

Also, Mrs. Woodward, Tesoro’s AP and Educational Psychology teacher, has dealt firsthand with a battle against breast cancer. She hopes that students spread awareness by not only wearing pink on campus, but also by bringing the topic home to conversation. So, she gives a task to students to increase awareness and save lives: “Every kid could go home and ask their mom, ‘have you had your mammogram?’”

With this, Tesoro High School recognizes breast cancer awareness and encourages all of its students and families to recognize it as well.
